Protect Yourself Before You Start University
Protecting eligible young people against meningococcal group B disease before starting university or residential education.
NHS Meningitis B (MenB) Vaccination
Running out of an important regular medicine can be worrying, particularly when your GP surgery is closed or you cannot obtain a new prescription in time.
The NHS MenB vaccination programme is designed to help protect eligible young people before they start university or move into eligible residential education settings, where the risk of meningococcal disease may be higher.
Meningococcal B (MenB) is a bacterial infection that can cause meningitis and septicaemia. Although uncommon, these illnesses can develop quickly and can become serious.
Who May Be Eligible?
You may be eligible for an NHS MenB vaccination if you are:
✓ A Year 13 student born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008
✓ Under 25 and starting university for the first time
✓ Under 25 and entering an eligible residential further education setting for the first time
Eligibility is based on current NHS England guidance and your individual circumstances.
If you are unsure whether you qualify, our pharmacy team can help you understand whether the NHS service may be suitable for you.
